During my personal trips I have found out that there is one hotel chain that does not mind if you bring pets (almost any kind) at all.
Most Motel 6 do not even charge a pet fee! I have seen Pitbulls, Terriers, Rottweilers, mini dogs, and cats. All are welcome!
The rooms are very reasonable, nationwide between $35.00 - 65.00 (double occupancy), clean, and conveniently located near Freeway exits. Get their travel book, it has listings in every US state, or check out their website! .
No need to plan ahead for weeks, a short call the day prior to arrival or even in the morning of the same day normally works fine. Be careful though if you travel during a long holiday weekend, rooms might not be available without prior reservation!
Travellodge Hotels
Some offer pet friendly rooms. Please call and check with the manager, number of rooms are limited.
TravelPets
has listings for pet friendly hotels for the US and Canada.
Local Automobil Clubs also offer books with thousands of hotel listings that accept pets. Most of these though need to be called in advance to guarantee a room for a certain date. Most of the hotel rooms for pet owners are located on the ground floor level, which is rather convenient. Fees vary from $8.00 - $12.00/night, sometimes depending on the size of the animal.
Worst place to visit with your animal: Laughlin and Las Vegas, NV. Very few hotels have pet rooms, advance notice of at least 2 weeks is absolutely necessary.
I have solved that problem by staying outside of these cities. The little commute was well worth it, especially since the Riviera in Laughlin “lost” my request for a pet room and had no way to offer a substitute.
As mentioned earlier, please be courteous towards other hotel guests! Don’t leave your animal alone in the room if you know that it will bark. Some dogs sleep when the owner is gone, some like to bark. And never let the animal off the leash. The surroundings are not familiar to the animals, the might get spooked, panik, and run away. You certainly don’t want to spend days searching for your escaped dog, or even risk an injury.
Always remember, if the hotel owner/management is suffering damage (chewed up furniture, carpet, complaints from other guests), he might not offer pet rooms any longer. Please keep your reputation as a responsible pet owner! Other pet lovers will thank you.
