Dog fashion - dog dresses - dog clothing

Some dogs are just born to be dressed up, and some dog owners like their pets to look even more cute. But we are not only talking dog fashion here, there are, however, several practical reasons to dress provide your animal with dog clothing as well.
It’s not always a question about fashion:
Small dogs often have very little body fat and are prone to freeze easily. Just think of Chihuahuas, many of them start shaking as soon as temperatures go below 60 degrees. Also, dogs that have undergone medical treatments that result in the loss of fur will often need at least some temporary protection from the elements until their fur grows back. This also applies to dogs who have been shaved.
People who live in cold areas should keep in mind that even though their pets have fur, they may need protection from the elements. Dogs acclimate to indoor climate when spending most of their time at your home.
Short-haired dogs are easier to get cold than long haired breeds. Most dogs don’t like the rain, and appreciate some protection, such as dog jackets or dog raincoats. Many of the dog coats or jackets are made of polar fleece which is a good protective fabric; it insulates and keeps the dog warm while drawing moisture away from the skin.
Don’t consider winter the only time your dog might need protection. Summer can be as bad for an animal. A dog that suffers from hairloss or has been shaved may need protection from the harmful rays of the sun.
Getting your dog to like their fashion outfits:
Proper fit is important for getting your dog to accept the outfit. Also, make sure that they don’t hinder vision, hearing, mobility, or breathing. An uncomfortable dog can quickly become annoyed and snappish. It might take some practice for the both of you to get the dog t-shirt or dog jacket on and off. Start with short periods of time where the dog wears the outfit and reward your dog with a treat or a verbal praise. You can slowly increase the time the garment is worn. The dog will get used to it, same as it gets used to a differently designed harness. It is untrue that older dogs cannot be dressed. It just takes a little more patience, but they will get used to it eventually. Actually, when having an older dog that might suffer from arthritis, dressing him in dog jackets or dog coats is very important to keep the joints warm. If you have a puppy, start early to get him used to dog fashion. Most small dogs actually developed a liking for their dog dresses, even dog night gowns, and their self esteem rises.
