An alert cat with it’s ears back and steady posture is in a state of indecision, still checking her options. When the ears are back and the cat gows flat to the floor it shows signs of submission or remorse.
A curious, interested cat will have the ears pricked and in general an alert stance. Head up means self-confidence and alertness, head lowerd shows submission or a feeling of inferiority. Bored cats sometimes tuck their head in completly. Sneaking around low on the ground is a sure sign of an oncoming assault. Be aware - a speedy attack might follow this prey.
Kitty-Chat
Some cats purring is so low that it is hard to hear, you have to hold your hand on their larynx to notice it. On the other hand, some are excessive “purrers” and start already when they see you. Purring is an expression of well-being, of happiness, but can also be seen when a cat is ill, used for self-comfort.
Many cats are very vocal, and their “meows” have a large range of sounds. Some cats like to be talked to and “talk back” with the greatest pleasure. Many cats respond vocally when they are called by their name. Feral cats are normally less vocal except during the time they are kittens.
Another vocal expression is hissing and grumbling. Both of these mean that the animal is aggressive or sees the need to defend himself. Female cats in heat use this kind of communication excessively, as do feral cats.
