Bad Breath in Dogs

by Filed under Pet News, Pet Grooming

Most of us experience it - your dogs shows affection, is trying to lick you, and his breath is just horrible!

Besides regular dental check-ups at the Vet’s office and teeth cleaning, some dog’s breath just does not smell like roses.

To protect his teeth, gums and to avoid bad breath, just sprinkle Coenzyme Q10 on his food. Small pets require about 10 mg, larger dogs 20 mg. Coenzyme Q 10 is available at health food and drug stores and not only helps gums, it’s also an anti-inflammatory and antioxident.

Keep Your Cat’s Coat Clean For Pennies!

by Filed under Pet News, Pet Grooming

Usually cats neither need nor do they like a bath. Though they do a very good job to keep themselves clean, it can happen that they get overly dirty.

It can be a real challenge to give your Kitty a bath since most hate it, get really stressed out and aggressive. The gentle way to clean a cat’s overly dirty coat is to sprinkle corn starch all over (be careful to not sprinkle on the eyes and nose!), and then brush it through the fur. Corn starch traps the dirt and when your cat grooms herself, the dirt lifts right out.

Corn starch is not harmful to pets and much cheaper than some products available in pet supply stores!

Skunk - what a smell!

A “SKUNK” got your dog?

Dogs do need a regular bath; they are digging, rolling in the grass, in the dirt, and not always smell like “roses”. If your dog is allowed outside, to play in nature on a large property, chances are that he will sooner or later meet a skunk.

Bathing a Cat

Giving Your Cat a Bath

Bathing your cat(s) is certainly not as common as bathing a dog. Cats are very clean animals and constantly groom themselves. However, some people prefer to bath their cats, and besides that in some cases, such as flea infestation, a bath is appropriate. Longhaired cats need a bath periodically or their hair will tangle and matting.

With a very few exceptions cats do not like water, the truly dislike being given a bath, and some might fight you with all they have. If you do this the first time, better ask a friend or family member for help.

Hairballs & Your Cat

by Filed under Pet Grooming

When you have a cat, you know about hairballs, we dare to say. We have all experienced these “yucky” spots on the carpet or floor and the frightening sounding hacking noises a cat uses to get rid of them. By looking at my cats I can tell that they do not like their hairballs and it’s a rather disgusting chore for them to throw up.

Cat Grooming Tips

by Filed under Pet Grooming

Cats spend about 20% of their waking hours grooming themselves. Usually their grooming consists of licking the fur and legs, nails and tails. Cats are normally very clean animals but swallow lots of hair in the process of licking their fur. That can lead to clogs in their digestive system and/or throwing up. Also cats with very thick coat or very long hair hardly manage to get tangles out. I recommend helping the cat with regular brushing.
