Some dogs don’t even want to go outside when it rains, some dogs love it. If your dog is not afraid of water you can try to take it a step further and introduce him to swimming. Swimming in a pool, a lake, or even the ocean is a great way to cool off, and an exercise easy on joints, even dogs with arthritis can do.
Be careful though that your dogs does not drink saltwater or chlorine treated water from your pool. Better put a bowl of fresh water besides the pool, or within his reach, so he can satisfy his needs without swallowing chemicals. Never forget to take bottled water and a bowl with you on trips, when you go hiking, etc. This applies for all seasons, especially important during the hot summer months though. Be aware of that even the best “swimmer” might be endangered by strong currents, or big waves. Never leave your dog unattended when in water, and don’t force him to swim. If your dog hates water, you will never make an Olympic contender out of him
