Auction site wants to profit from animals?
Please say NO

Ebay is definitely a very good auction site - but the need to start auctions for pets in future is absolutely ridiculous. Ebay is selling pets on their sistersite in Canada already!

Please adopt from shelters, or (if absolutely desired), buy a healthy animal from breeders.

Just a few numbers to make people think:

* Yearly over 12 million dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters.
* About 25% of dogs entering a shelter are purebreds.
* About 65% of all dogs in a shelter are killed.
* About 74% of all cats in a shelter are killed.

Ebay intends to start a Pet Classified listing section. They are trying to make it appear as if this is in the best interest of rescue groups or other related pet services. This is not true! Ebay charges for listings, the bidder has to pay for the animal. If Ebay is so concerned and wants to HELP, why would there be a listing fee? Don’t fall for it please, adopt your animals from shelters or buy them from breeders. Many animals from puppy-mills will be ending up being auctioned. Please do not support this money making effort that has nothing to do with helping animals finding a loving home!

Update: December 27, 2005
Thanks to all the animal lovers who protested! Ebay has received about 3,000 responses from sellers declining to allow auctions for live animals on the US site. Many shelters and rescue organisations also vehemently refused to participate! Unfortunately Ebay already allows this practice on Canadian and Mexican sister-sites. We will keep working and protesting - no animal should be “auctioned off”.
