Urine Spots on Your Lawn

by Filed under Pet News, Saving Your Lawn

Dogs develop a liking for their “potty spots” and might uriniate on them all the time. Especially male dogs can make a lawn look really bad (yellow, brown spots) since they are “marking” their territory at several places. Female dogs are less likely to ruin the looks of your yard/lawn because they normally squat down to urinate and empty their bladder at once. Male dogs seem to be able to urinate 50+ times with no problems. Some are very territorial and feel the need to “mark” everywhere.

Bathing a Cat

by Filed under Pet Grooming

Giving Your Cat a Bath

Bathing your cat(s) is certainly not as common as bathing a dog. Cats are very clean animals and constantly groom themselves. However, some people prefer to bath their cats, and besides that in some cases, such as flea infestation, a bath is appropriate. Longhaired cats need a bath periodically or their hair will tangle and matting.

With a very few exceptions cats do not like water, the truly dislike being given a bath, and some might fight you with all they have. If you do this the first time, better ask a friend or family member for help.

How to keep your dog healthy, happy & fit! Part 2 - Nutrition

by Filed under Pet News, Dogs - Keep Them Fit!

Proper nutrition is very important for your dog’s health. Overweight dogs have an increased risk of heart disease, arthritis and diabetes. Obese and overweight dogs become reluctant to exercise and longer walks and tend to move much less. The less they move, the more weight they gain. It is hard to put a dog on a strict diet to lose weight. Much better is to feed him dog a healthy, well-balanced diet that is nutritious so the problems won’t even arise!

Don’t Declaw - Train Your Cat!

by Filed under Pet News, Cats Declawing

Cats NEED to scratch; it’s not a viscous behavior because they are unhappy or mad with their owner/surroundings. Actually cats do scratch to remove the thin skin from their claws, not really to sharpen them. Since the claws are the most effective “weapon” for a cat to defend herself, the claws need to be kept in excellent shape. That’s instinctively done, and has nothing to do with “getting even with my owner”.

Declawing - Please read before you do it!

by Filed under Pet News, Cats Declawing

Declawing is an inhumane and unnecessary procedure! I’d recommend for a person that is so worried about carpet, furniture, etc. to get a goldfish. Yes, I might sound harsh, but it is rather easy - with the right equipment - to prevent your cat from scratching where it is not supposed to scratch. Most cat owners who insist on declawing, against the veterinarian’s recommendation, are simply too lazy to try alternatives and to train a cat.

Dogs need exercise and love it. In order to keep your dog happy, healthy, fit and slim your dog needs to move and play. Exercise can be walking, running, playing, some even like swimming. As a general rule keep in mind that the dog should be active at least 3 times a day for 10 - 20 minutes each.
