Problems with Litterbox training

Litterbox Problems

It is not very common in domesticated cats, but it can happen that your cat will not use the litterbox. When you try to tame a feral cat or even kitten, the problem occurs frequently. (See our article about >>feral cats and taming feral kittens).

A friend of mine is dedicated to save as many feral cats and kittens as possible and was frequently faced with this litterbox problem in the past. By chance she found a cat litter that’s called Dr. Elsey’s Cat Attract Cat Litter. We have reviewed this litter and posted the result on our sistersite >> PetStuffReviews.

This scoopable litter seems to be the solution for feral cats and also for exceptional picky domesticated animals. It contains a natural herbal component that attracts the animal and has a different texture than the regular cat litter. When switched to this special litter, in 19 out of 20 cases the “toilet problem” got resolved within hours.

If your cat is very sensitive, or if you are having troubles training your kitten, give it a try. The litter is a bit pricey though and we recommend to start mixing it with regular cat litter after a few weeks. Add regular litter and increase the amount gradually. Over time you should be able to just add a top layer of Dr. Elsey’s Cat Attract Cat Litter to the litterbox.
