Dogs for the Blind & Disabled - Therapy Dogs
Dogs are not only incredible companions, they are also used to help blind and disabled people. If you have ever seen what an incredible job these animals do, you will see dogs in a different light!
Most of these organisations provide FREE animals for people in need. These animals are highly trained, and contrary to what some believe, a large number of these intelligent and wonderful animals are rescue dogs from shelters, etc.
If you want to volunteer, donate, or know anybody who is is need of a furry helper, please contact your local agencies or search the web. Below are some links to organisations for your convenience.
Dogs are also used in hospitals, schools and nursing homes to cheer up the residents. Especially children and older people respond extremly well to contact with animals.
If you have a good-natured dog, well trained, that does not shy away from contact with other people, is social, calm, tolerant, and friendly, you might want to consider vulunteering a few hours a week. What can be more rewarding than offering other human beings the pleasure of spending time together with your loving animal? These dogs are called “Therapy Dogs” and are usually just nice house pets whose owners share them with patients to make people feel less lonely, less sad, less depressed.
